How to Search on the Sprue Brothers Models webstore

First, there are two different search functions available: the Basic Search and the Advanced Search

BASIC SEARCH

The Basic Search is located on all the webstore pages near the top right:

The Basic Search performs a search of the item’s title and description for any matches to the search term(s) you use.

Example #1: If you do a search for “32 P-51”, this will bring up any items containing “32” (this will catch all 1:32 scale items) and “P-51”

Example #2: If you do a search for “48 Hasegawa F-14D”, this will bring up any items containing “48” (this brings up all 1:48 scale items), “Hasegawa” (this further limits the search results to Hasegawa kits or items intended for use with the Hasegawa kit), and “f-14d” (which even further narrows the search results for the F-14D Tomcat.

Example #3: If you do a search for “35 Stryker”, this will bring up any items containing “35” (this will catch all 1:35 scale items) and “Stryker” (which limits the search results to items containing Stryker also)

TIP – if you change the “Sort By” to SKU, this will have the results shown to you in manufacturer order. This is because our item numbers all begin with a code for the manufacturer and the results now will be shown to you in order of our Item Number which is essentially the same as in order by manufacturer.

ADVANCED SEARCH

The Advanced Search function is located in top right of the center frame right below the Basic Search box:

Before we go any further, you will need to understand how our categories are arranged.

For all essential purposes, our categories are arranged in a pyramid-type of arrangement (very similar to a company’s organization chart). The top level/main categories are the categories shown on the left side of the website (as seen above). When you click on any of the main categories, then the next level of sub-categories are shown.

The picture below is a simplified illustration of the pyramid of some sample categories:

If you were to click on the “Aircraft” category on the left side of the screen, then the two next levels of subcategories are revealed (Aftermarket Accessories and Kits). If you then click on Aftermarket Accessories, then the third level of subcategories is shown including Decals, Photo Etched Sets, and Paint Masks as shown in the chart above. Now if you were to click on Decals, the next lower level of subcategories is revealed including the ones shown in the above simplified chart.

An understanding of this pyramid structure that we use for categories will enable you to use the Advanced Search to its fullest capabilities. This is because Advanced Search will only search the category you select and all related subcategories tied to the original category you selected to search. This is what makes this search so useful. It enables you to search as much or as little as you want.

When you click on Advanced Search, the advanced search window will come up:

These are your search options:

Keyword(s) – this is where you type the search terms

Category – this is where you can narrow your search to a particular categories and its subcategories

SKU – use this if you are searching for our assigned Item Number (this box is really intended to be used alone – do not use any of the other search option boxes if you want to search by our Item Number)

Price – use this if you want to narrow the search results by price

Sort By – this arranges the search results in the desired order (we recommended setting this to “SKU”)

Example #1: To see what aftermarket items we have for a F-14 Tomcat, use the following setting:

Keyword(s): Tomcat

Category: Aftermarket Accessories

SKU: leave blank

Price: leave blank unless you want only items of a certain price level to be shown

Sort By: we recommended by SKU but this is optional

What this search will bring up is all aftermarket items we carry for a F-14 Tomcat in any scale.

Example #2: To see what decals we have for a F-16 Falcon, use the following setting:

Keyword(s): F-16

Category: Decals / Markings (under Aftermarket Accessories)

SKU: leave blank

Price: leave blank unless you want only items of a certain price level to be shown

Sort By: we recommended by SKU but this is optional
